DC flags off National Road Safety Month for Bishnupur

Bishnupur, Jan 15:

Deputy Commissioner, Bishnupur, Lourembam Bikram, today flagged off the 36th National Road Safety Month, 2025 under the theme “Parvaah (Care)” for the district at the Mini Secretariat Complex, Bishnupur.
The event was organized by the District Transport Office, Bishnupur, in collaboration with the SP Office Bishnupur, Zonal Education Office Bishnupur, and Chief Medical Office Bishnupur, under the supervision of the District Administration, Bishnupur.
The observation will feature a variety of activities aimed at promoting road safety, including a road safety enforcement drive, school road safety awareness campaigns, quiz and drawing competition, public awareness programs in public places, poster campaign, and awareness about the hit-and-run motor compensation scheme.
During the event, the Deputy Commissioner administered the Road Safety Pledge 2025, calling on all participants to commit to safe driving practices. The pledge emphasized the importance of following traffic rules: wearing helmets while riding two-wheelers, using seat belts while driving, avoiding the use of mobile phones while driving, refraining from driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs, respecting the rights of pedestrians, and actively promoting road safety within the community.
A key highlight of the program was the application of the “Golden Rules for Road Safety” to vehicles operating on the roads, reinforcing safe practices for all road users.
District Transport Officer Khumujam Jimmy Singh, speaking on the occasion, noted that the road safety month is being observed across the district under the guidance of the State Transport Department. The main aim of the observation is to reduce accidents and increase awareness about road safety.
He urged the public to strictly adhere to traffic rules and regulations and advised drivers to avoid using high beam lights at night to prevent accidents. He also emphasized the importance of wearing helmets for safety and not evading penalties.
Additional District Magistrate T. Opendra, district-level officials, bike riders, and auto drivers also participated in the flag-off event.
