Woman injured in gunfight between NSCN-IM and ZUF(J)

A woman was injured when cadres of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland – Isak-Muivah (NSCN-IM) and Zeliangrong United Front – Jenchui (ZUF-J) exchanged fire at Taodaijang Bunruang village, about 19 km east of Nungba Police Station in Noney district, at around 4.30 am today.

The injured woman has been identified as Ganchuiliu Kamei, 36, wife of Dithailung Gangmei and a resident of Taodaijang. She sustained a gunshot wound to her thigh. Her condition was reported to be stable.

Sources said the gunfight broke out between the two armed groups, during which NSCN-IM cadres reportedly attacked a bunker belonging to ZUF(J).

On receiving information about the clash, the Officer-in-Charge of Nungba Police Station led a police team to the area to assess the situation.

The latest incident comes amid continuing armed clashes between the NSCN-IM and ZUF(J) in Taodaijang village. On the night of March 9 this year, the two groups reportedly exchanged fire for nearly three hours in the same village. The earlier clash reportedly damaged three residential houses, with bomb blasts and gunfire causing destruction in the area.
