The Chandel Forest Division organised an educational tour for 50 students from 10 schools in Chandel district as part of Wildlife Week, being observed from October 2 to 8.
DFO/Chandel Dr N. Munal Meitei flagged off the tour from Japhou Bazaar at 7 am today, with school principals, teachers and Forest Department staff participating.
The students will visit Keibul Lamjao National Park, Manipur Zoological Garden, Kangla and Manipur State Museum to learn about wildlife, habitats and the state’s natural and cultural heritage.
The programme is part of a series of Wildlife Week activities organised by the Forest Department in Chandel, including awareness campaigns, mobile registration drives and school-level programmes on World Animal Day and World Habitat Day.
Speaking to the students, Dr Munal Meitei said the initiative seeks to deepen awareness about wildlife conservation while fostering a sense of national integration and collective responsibility.
