‘He was the youngest and first MP of Republic India and was also the oldest to represent Manipur at Rajya Sabha’
Imphal, Aug 22:
The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) today observed the 4th death anniversary of the Octogenarian politician Rishnag Keishing and organized – “Rishnag Keishing Memorial Lecture” with aims to impart the political ideology and his commitment to the unity of the state of Manipur.
“I always feel his existence among us and sometimes could not believe that he had passed away”, CLP Leader Okram Ibobi said while speaking on the inaugural session of the lecture programme.
It has been four years and it seems only a year that the octogenarian politicians leave us all for heavenly abode and it was because his activities on social issues, political ideology, and his statesmanship still live among us, Ibobi added.
Soon after India became an Independent republic nation, Late Rishang keishing as a socialist , was elected as a member of the Lok Sabha when Manipur was under territorial Council. It was at that time that he met the then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and due to his influence, he joined the Congress Party. Late Rishang keishing was not only the youngest and the first MP from Manipur but he was also the the oldest member of the Rajya Sabha during Atal Bihari led NDA Government, the former Chief Minister and now the Congress legislature Wing leader said.
Member of the Congress Working Committee of the AICC and also the former president of the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee, Gaikhangam in his speech recalled the late leaders exceptional qualities both as a human being, politician and also social workers.
“Oja Rishang Keishing begins his political career since his college day and he was a true socialist and later joined Congress as he believes the socialist concept of the Congress party”, Gaikhangam said calling him a “Visionary leader”.
Gaikhangam said that organizing such a lecture of the great visionary leader will enable the new generation to understand the political vision of the late leader.
“We have a lot to learn from Oja Rishnag Keishing – not as a politician alone but also as a human being and as social workers”, Gaikhangam said.
Rishang keishing was a an exemplary leader, well discipline human being and a person who never showed anger to any of the person, Gaikhangam said and added that he have the courage to fight and stand for the truth.
President of the MPCC, N Loken in his speech said that the memorial lecture is being organized to share the thoughts and ideas of the experts and scholars so that the Congress party could acted on as per the changing political trends. The congress party will implement the recommendation made during the lecture series and will strengthen the party in the upcoming general election.
He also added that Congress is hopeful in wining more seats to form the next government.
