Imhal, April 1:
The Government of the People’s Republic of Nagalim (GPRN), through the Office of the Zeilad ZLR Region, has issued a directive instructing work agencies engaged in road infrastructure projects on NH-37 and NH-137 to release long-pending compensation to affected beneficiaries.
According to the official press release, the directive mandates compliance with the Rights to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation, and Resettlement Act, 2013. The statement cites provisions from the Manipur Gazette and the Ministry of Law and Justice under the Government of India, emphasizing the legal obligation to provide fair compensation to landowners.
The directive also references orders issued by the GPRN’s leadership, including instructions from Yaruiwo Q. Tuccu, dated October 8, 2024. The memo highlights the necessity of immediate compensation payments to affected landowners under the Affected Land and Properties Owners’ Committee (ALPOC).
Furthermore, the press release underscores the importance of engaging with landowners before commencing any development work. A previous statement from December 13, 2021, stressed the need for prior consultation, addressing grievances, and obtaining permissions for activities such as jungle clearance, standing crops removal, and rerouting water resources.
The Zeilad ZLR Region’s office has warned that failure to comply with these directives will result in holding the NHIDCL, State Government, and other responsible authorities accountable for any consequences arising from non-compliance.
