The National People’s Party (NPP), Manipur has strongly condemned the August 27 ambush along the Imphal-Tamei road between Makui Ashang and Thanamba Naga villages, in which four Naga civilians were killed and others critically injured.
In a statement, the NPP Manipur said the victims included an educator, village leaders and youth representatives, and described the incident as a “horrific and unprovoked” attack on unarmed civilians travelling along an important civilian route.
The party conveyed condolences to the bereaved families and expressed solidarity with the victims, injured persons and affected communities.
Terming the attack an egregious violation of basic human rights and an assault on peace, the NPP Manipur alleged that the violence was aimed at destabilising the region.
The party urged the Government of Manipur and the Ministry of Home Affairs to launch a swift and uncompromising operation to identify, arrest and prosecute all individuals and armed groups involved in the killings.
It also appealed to civil society groups, regional communities and other stakeholders to exercise restraint, maintain public order and uphold legal processes, while calling for efforts to ensure that violence does not undermine the pursuit of justice and peace.
