JAC members thronged to Court as 3 accused in Rakesh murder case produced

Three persons arrested on suspicion of involvement in the killing of Laishram Rakesh of Khangabok Mayai Leikai were produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), Thoubal, today after completion of their police custody remand, triggering a large gathering of Joint Action Committee (JAC) members and local residents at the District and Sessions Court complex.

Rakesh was fatally shot during a musical programme at the CYSA Playground in Sangaiyumpham on the night of October 18. He sustained gunshot injuries after a firing incident during the programme and later succumbed to his injuries. Police subsequently arrested three persons suspected of involvement in the killing.

Following reports that the accused would be produced before the court, JAC members and local residents gathered outside the court complex, demanding stringent punishment for those responsible.

The crowd attempted to enter the court premises, prompting district police, including a substantial deployment of women personnel, to tighten security and close the court gates. Police prevented the gathering from entering the complex and maintained security to avert any untoward incident.

After their police custody remand ended, the three accused were produced before the CJM, Thoubal, and subsequently remanded to judicial custody.

Speaking to the media, Laishram Kiran, Convenor of the JAC Against the Brutal Killing of Laishram Rakesh of Khangabok Mayai Leikai, demanded that all those involved in the murder be awarded the severest punishment. He also called for the filing of a chargesheet and stringent legal action without delay.
