CNPO stages mass rally in Chandel, demands abrogation of SoO pact

The Chandel Naga People’s Organisation (CNPO) today organised a mass rally in Chandel, demanding an end to civilian killings and the ongoing conflict in Manipur, besides calling for the abrogation of the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement with Kuki militant groups.

The rally began at Chandel Main Stadium, with participants endorsing the demands raised by the United Naga Council (UNC) and expressing solidarity with the mass rally jointly organised by the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) and various Naga organisations.

The protesters raised five major demands, including an immediate end to civilian killings, termination of the SoO agreement, an end to alleged proxy wars by the Government of India, abrogation of the pact with Kuki militant groups and effective implementation of the agreements reached during the Guwahati talks on September 26, 2026.

Addressing reporters, CNPO president Dilbung Francis Thandok said the prevailing situation in Manipur was unacceptable and could no longer be allowed to continue. He said the rally was intended to draw the attention of the State Government to the deteriorating situation and press for concrete measures to address the crisis and restore peace.

Leaders and representatives of 11 tribal communities, along with representatives of various organisations, participated in the rally.
