Imphal, April 24:
Two mass anti-rabies vaccination programmes were successfully conducted on Wednesday at Khurai and Samurou, aiming to prevent the spread of rabies and promote public health awareness.
At Khurai, the vaccination drive was organised at the premises of Peacefull Club in collaboration with the Veterinary Office, Imphal East, under the aegis of the All Manipur United Clubs’ Organisation (AMUCO). The initiative was spearheaded by Th. Premananda, General Secretary of the Students United Club Organisation (SUCO), a unit of the Imphal East District United Clubs’ Organisation (IEDUCO), a partner body of AMUCO. A team from AMUCO led by its Executive Member M. Premjit @ Thabi was also in attendance. The campaign began early at 6 AM, during which around 150 domestic dogs and cats received anti-rabies vaccinations.
In a parallel effort, the Energetic Youths’ Development Organisation (EYDO), Samurou Keithel, conducted a similar drive at Samurou. The programme was held under the joint initiative of AMUCO and the Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry, Government of Manipur. With support from departmental staff and club volunteers, the one-day free vaccination programme commenced at 7 AM. Approximately 150 pets were vaccinated during the event.
Representatives from AMUCO stated that such mass vaccination drives are crucial in preventing the outbreak of rabies, a potentially fatal disease, and stressed the importance of proactive community participation. They further called for similar efforts across other districts to ensure a rabies-free environment throughout the state.
