Farmers urged to strengthen food self-sufficiency

The Agriculture Department of the Government of Manipur, in collaboration with United Farmers Club, Langathel, today organised a farmer training-cum-machinery and seed distribution programme at Langathel Keithel Macha in Thoubal district.
Joychandra Konthoujam attended the programme as chief guest. Agriculture Officer (HQ) Rajkumar Nganba attended as Special Guest of Honour, while Seed Analyst and MOVCD-NER Nodal Officer Kh. Nimaichand Singh and Langathel Gram Panchayat Chairperson S. Tomba Singh attended as guests of honour. The programme was presided over by District Agriculture Officer of Thoubal and Kakching, R.K. Umakanta Singh.
Speaking at the event, Joychandra Konthoujam appreciated the initiatives taken up under the supervision of the Director of Agriculture and stressed the importance of strengthening agriculture and irrigation systems in the state. He stated that proper utilisation of agricultural inputs and machinery distributed free of cost by the government could bring significant transformation to the lives of farmers and contribute towards building a self-reliant Manipur.
He further noted that disruptions along national highways often affect the supply of essential goods and underscored the need for Manipur to strengthen its own food production capacity to ensure long-term sustainability and self-sufficiency.
