Kangpokpi, April 24:

Chairman of the Hill Areas Committee of the Manipur Legislative Assembly, Dinganglung Gangmei, called for unity among communities and stressed the importance of dialogue to overcome artificial divides during the Wainem Village Foundation Day observance held today at the Wainem Community Hall in Kangpokpi district.
Speaking at the function, Dinganglung Gangmei stated that true development in Manipur can only be achieved when all communities—Naga, Meitei, Meitei Pangal, and Kuki—move forward together. “Manipur is not defined by one community alone. Every group contributes to its identity. The divisions we see today are rooted in artificial boundaries. These must be addressed through dialogue and understanding,” he said.
He also underlined that peace and reconciliation are achievable when people begin to accept one another and acknowledge a shared history. “Only by embracing one another in the spirit of truth can we build a unified Manipur,” Gangmei added.
The foundation day celebration, which commemorates the history and cultural heritage of the Kabui settlement, was attended by several notable figures, including Professor Dr. GD Ransinchung RN of IIT Roorkee, Dr. Edwin Gonmei, former Chief Medical Officer of Noney District, Lt. Col. Kabiphun Panmei of the Indian Army, and village leaders Khullakpa Khumanchao Gonmei and Khunpu Gongapou Gonmei.
As part of the event, the Wainem Women Society performed cultural dances and songs, adding vibrancy and tradition to the occasion. A foundation stone was also laid by Khunpu Gongapou Gonmei, symbolizing a renewed commitment to the village’s growth and legacy.
