Prayers offered for peace in Manipur during Eid-ul-Zuha observance

Special prayers were offered for restoration of peace and normalcy in Manipur during the observance of Eid-ul-Zuha organised by the Ediga Committee at Bengoon Mayang Imphal in connection with Eidgah ground religious ceremonies.
During the programme, prayers were offered seeking an end to the ongoing violence and unrest affecting different communities in the state. Participants also appealed for harmony and peaceful coexistence among all sections of society.
Concern was also expressed over the prolonged economic blockade along National Highways, which organisers said has severely affected the daily lives of the people. The gathering urged the government to take immediate steps to restore free movement of essential goods and ease the hardships faced by the public.
Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of the Eid congregation, Vice President of the Manipur Meitei Pangal Welfare Organisation (MMWO), Chesham Achouba, stated that Manipur is home to people belonging to different communities and religions who have coexisted for generations with mutual respect and cooperation.
He appealed to all communities to uphold communal harmony and respect each other’s faiths and traditions. He also urged both the Central and Manipur governments to take timely measures to restore lasting peace and ensure a secure future for the younger generation in the state.
