The Department of Theatre, Manipur University of Culture (MUC), today staged its major theatre production “Nongban Soura” at the auditorium of the Manipur Dramatic Union (MDU). The play was part of the final semester performance for B.A. 6th and M.A. 4th semester students of the 2024–25 academic session.
The programme was graced by Prof. Paonam Gunindro Singh, Vice Chancellor of MUC, as Chief Guest. Laimayum Devendrajit Sharma, Coordinator of Examination, attended as Guest of Honour, while Laishram Radhakanta Singh, Registrar of MUC, presided over the event.
The function began with a welcome and keynote address delivered by Toijam Shila Devi, Head of the Department of Theatre. This was followed by speeches from the dignitaries. Visiting faculty member Mayengbam Bobo later delivered the vote of thanks.
The highlight of the evening was the presentation of “Nongban Soura”, written, designed, and directed by Loitongbam Paringanba, Guest Faculty of the Theatre Department. The production showcased the creative potential of theatre students and reflected the university’s commitment to blending academic learning with performance-based training.
Dignitaries and faculty members lauded the effort of the students and the department, stressing that such productions not only enrich cultural life but also contribute towards strengthening Manipur’s theatrical tradition.
