FATYCM voices concern over unequal PMKSY allocation

The Federation of All Tribal Youth Clubs, Manipur (FATYCM) reportedly submitted a representation to the Director of the Agriculture Department, Government of Manipur, raising serious concern over what it considered to be an unequal allocation of beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY) – Per Drop More Crop scheme for the financial year 2024–2025.
In the representation, FATYCM is said to have observed a significant disparity between the allocations given to hill districts and those granted to valley districts. The federation is understood to have pointed out that despite the hill districts covering larger geographical areas and possessing substantial agricultural potential, they had been allotted disproportionately fewer beneficiaries. It cited examples such as Tamenglong and Noney receiving only three and two beneficiaries respectively, while Senapati got ten, Churachandpur two, Ukhrul and Kamjong thirty-five, and Chandel sixty-one.
In contrast, the valley districts were reported to have received significantly higher numbers, with Imphal East getting 500 beneficiaries, Imphal West 276, Thoubal 115, Bishnupur 145, and Kakching 91. FATYCM allegedly described this distribution as unjust and called upon the Agriculture Department to review and revise the allocation criteria to make it more equitable and region-sensitive.
The federation is said to have argued that due to the hilly terrain and limited accessibility, the hill districts require greater support for agricultural development. It believed that the current allocation undermines the potential of farmers in those regions to fully benefit from government schemes aimed at promoting irrigation and sustainable agriculture.
FATYCM reportedly urged the department to implement immediate corrective measures to ensure fair and inclusive distribution of scheme benefits. The federation was of the view that a more balanced allocation would empower farmers in the hill districts and contribute to narrowing the developmental gap between the hill and valley regions.
