A month-long workshop-cum-production programme on Teental Achouba, organised by the Guru Irabot Institute of Manipur Culture (GIIMC), concluded on Friday at Sinshu Shanglen, Bashikhong Bazar, Imphal East.
The workshop was held from July 30 to August 28 at the institute to preserve and promote the traditional art and cultural heritage of Manipur.
Visiting Guru of JNMDA and MSKA Awardee N. Mangle Babu attended the closing function as the chief guest, while GIIMC Director and SNA Awardee N. Irabot presided over the programme. MSKA Awardee P. Mangi Singh, Joint Director of the Department of Art and Culture, Government of Manipur, G. Dharmadas Sharma, and President of Bashikhong Dramatic Association M. Ibochouba Singh attended as guests of honour.
The programme was sponsored by the Department of Art and Culture, Government of Manipur, under the Chief Minister’s Artist Support (CMAT) Scheme 2025-26.
Speaking on the occasion, GIIMC Secretary N. Tolensana Meitei said the workshop was organised to impart proper knowledge and understanding of Teental Achouba to emerging artists and young learners.
The instructors and gurus explained that Teental Achouba is an important rhythmic form in the rich tradition of Meitei Nat Sankirtana. The rhythm is prominently used in various traditional performances, including Sharda-Karma, Kirtana and Nupa Pala.
