The Meetei Erol Eyek Loinasillon Apunba Lup (MEELAL), Kangleipak, in collaboration with the Directorate of Language Planning and Implementation, Government of Manipur, has launched a 10-day Meitei language and Meitei Mayek teaching programme in Bangladesh.
The programme began at the Manipuri Cultural Complex at Tetaigoan, Adampur Bazar, Bangladesh, with around 100 participants attending the inaugural session. Representatives of 10 Manipuri organisations in Bangladesh also took part.
Enamur Rahim Babur, Upazila Primary Education Officer, Kamalganj, Moulvibazar, attended the inaugural programme as chief guest. MEELAL president Langoljam Nongmailembi, Thouburel Paonam Thakaba, Education Secretary Maibam Indrajit, Patriotic Writers Forum Manipur secretary Rakesh Naorem and Manipuri Cultural Complex president Langoljam Jayenta Singh were among those who attended.
The programme aims to promote the use of the Meitei language and Meitei Mayek among Manipuri communities in Bangladesh and strengthen efforts to preserve the community’s linguistic and cultural identity.
MEELAL said similar programmes would be conducted in other areas inhabited by Manipuris outside Manipur and appealed to the community to extend cooperation and support for the initiative.
