Ukhrul/Kamjong, March 27:
The Zingsho Katamnao Long (ZKL), also known as the Eastern Students’ Union, has declared an indefinite economic embargo against the Kukis of Chassad village under Kamjong Headquarters in Kamjong district, escalating tensions in the region.
According to an official declaration issued on March 26, the decision was taken following the alleged failure of the Chassad Youth Club to withdraw and tender an unconditional apology over a press statement dated March 24, 2026. The embargo comes in continuation of an earlier press communiqué issued by ZKL on March 24.
The organization announced that the economic blockade would come into force from 5:00 PM on March 26, directing strict compliance from all concerned individuals, organizations, and the general public. ZKL warned that any person or group found defying the embargo would face stringent action from the union.
The declaration, signed by ZKL President Khanso Nakhedei, has been circulated to several Tangkhul civil bodies and organizations, including student and community institutions, for enforcement and coordination.
The move is expected to further heighten tensions in the sensitive hill district, where relations between communities remain fragile amid ongoing ethnic and political strains. Authorities and civil society groups are likely to monitor developments closely as concerns grow over possible disruptions to movement, trade, and essential supplies in the affected area.
