The Hiyanglam Wabagai Lamkhai Bazar Board has alleged interference and threats by certain individuals, affecting the smooth functioning of the market, and appealed to the public for cooperation.
Addressing a press meet at his residence, Secretary Mayengbam Nodiyachand stated that the market, which has been operating for the past five to six years, is facing disruptions due to actions by a few individuals who have allegedly intimidated board members and obstructed its activities.
He said the board has been taking steps to regulate the market, including managing vendor spaces and clearing encroachments along the roadside. However, these efforts have reportedly been hindered, with instances of individuals attempting to forcibly enter the Bazar Board office and create disturbances.
Nodiyachand informed that complaints have been submitted to the concerned authorities, but no response has been received so far. He added that the matter has also been reported to the local police station.
The Secretary maintained that the board has been working in the interest of vendors and the public, including initiatives to maintain cleanliness and order in the market. He alleged that such efforts have faced resistance from certain sections.
He also cautioned against misinformation, stating that some individuals are falsely claiming authority over the Bazar Board and misleading the public.
Chairman Moirangthem Shajou Meitei, who also spoke at the press meet, stated that if any allegations against the board are substantiated, appropriate legal action could be taken. He asserted that the board has been functioning without any wrongdoing.
Members of the Bazar Board were also present at the press conference.
