Ukhrul, Nov 7:
In a powerful display of unity, students and staff from 24 government and private schools in Ukhrul gathered on Thursday at the Zonal Education Office (ZEO) gate in Pungreitang to protest a recent bomb threat. The protest aimed to denounce the alarming incident that took place on November 6, which has left the community shaken.
Eno Josiah, Principal of Ukhrul Higher Secondary School (UHSC), spoke passionately at the protest, urging authorities to declare educational institutions as “Education Free Zones” to shield them from threats and violence. He condemned the planting of a bomb at the ZEO, calling it “unfortunate and uncalled for,” and emphasized that attacks on such institutions jeopardize the safety and growth of the community. “The ZEO office stands as a pillar for the progress of our future generations. Threatening it is a direct attack on our community’s aspirations,” he stressed.
Three Student representatives also voiced a heartfelt plea to the public and local groups, urging respect for educational spaces and an end to violence that instills fear. “We call upon law enforcement to thoroughly investigate this incident and hold those responsible accountable,” they added.
The protest served as a resolute message against intimidation, with all participants united in their commitment to foster a safe, peaceful, and nurturing environment for the youth of Ukhrul.
The sit-in protest was also participated by Hunphun Katamnao Long (Hkl/ Ukhrul students Union) and Thawaijao Hungpunh Young Students Organisation (THYSO).
