Imphal, Nov 7:
The Manipur Meitei-Pangal Welfare Organisation (MMWO) and affiliated groups have condemned the recent rise in hate speech posts and comments targeting the Meitei-Pangal community on social media. Over the past ten days, these organizations observed a surge in divisive online content and urged the public to refrain from spreading harmful messages.
In collaboration with organizations such as the Manipur Meitei-Pangal Social Unification & Upliftment Organisation (MMSUUO), Women Coalition Against Crime (WCAC), Meitei Pangal Council Manipur (MPCM), Committee Against Anti-Social Elements (CAASE), and several village protection and youth committees, MMWO is raising awareness to counter this issue. Together, they aim to address hate speech and other actions undermining community harmony.
The MMWO’s statement highlighted concerns about drug abuse and social media misuse, including inappropriate video postings involving women and children and the unauthorized distribution of prescription drugs. To tackle these issues, MMWO and allied organizations plan to launch a campaign promoting responsible online behavior, warning that misuse of social media may lead to cybercrime charges. They stressed the importance of lawful, respectful conduct online to maintain peace and order within the community.
The initiative calls for unity and cooperation to prevent further divisive activities. The organizations reiterated their commitment to promoting harmony, while also addressing the growing influence of anti-social elements and drug abuse among youth, especially the spread of substances like “Nisha.” MMWO emphasized that drug addiction and anti-social behaviors have severe consequences for young people’s well-being.
They urged the community, particularly youth, to resist these influences and encouraged cooperation in supporting MMWO’s efforts to foster social harmony and well-being. Through a united approach, MMWO aims to tackle these challenges and drive positive change in the community.
