US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor today visited Loktak Lake in Bishnupur district and took a boat ride during his visit to Manipur.
Gor’s visit came a day after he met Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh and Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla in Imphal, with discussions focusing on strengthening US-India engagement and expanding economic ties.
Sharing details of his meeting with the Chief Minister, Gor said they exchanged ideas on how the US and India could work together to expand economic ties. Khemchand also invited the US envoy to the Manipur Sangai Festival.
The Chief Minister said the two discussed relations between the United States and Manipur and expressed confidence that engagement between the US and Manipur would strengthen in the coming years. Gor was accompanied by US Consul General in Kolkata Kathy Giles-Diaz.
Gor separately met Governor Bhalla and discussed the importance of continued US-India engagement.
The US envoy’s Manipur visit followed his recent visit to Darjeeling, where he met former Foreign Secretary and former Indian Ambassador to the US Harsh Vardhan Shringla and interacted with local residents, youth and students.
