Thoubal, Nov 7:
In a firm enforcement of the Deputy Commissioner’s recent directive, police in Thoubal district took action today to clear paddy harvesting activities from a public road. The incident occurred at Thoubal Athokpam near the Arong River, where a large amount of unharvested paddy had been piled up on the road, blocking access and violating the prohibitory order issued just a day prior.
The order, issued by the Deputy Commissioner, strictly prohibits the use of public roads for paddy harvesting or allowing mud from paddy fields to spill onto black-topped roads. This measure aims to prevent inconveniences and accidents caused by vehicles slipping on muddy roads. The order also advised farmers using harvesting machines to properly dispose of straw, as improperly scattered straw can create additional hazards.
Upon receiving reports this morning, police swiftly arrived at the site and directed the harvesters to relocate their activities to a more suitable area that would not disrupt traffic. This decisive intervention underscores the authorities’ commitment to ensuring public safety and maintaining road conditions during the harvest season.
In a similar incident, straw from a paddy harvesting machine at Tentha was found hanging from electric poles and wires, creating a safety hazard. Staff from the Manipur State Power Distribution Company Limited (MSPDCL) later cleared the straw to restore safety and prevent potential electrical issues.
