A significant sit-in protest was organized today in Jiribam District, where several local organizations united to voice their opposition to the recently passed Waqf Act by the Parliament. This demonstration was part of a larger nationwide movement against the legislation, which many believe undermines land rights and justice for the community.
The protest was jointly organized by the All Jiribam Muslim Welfare Society, the All Jiribam Muslim Economic & Cultural Development Organisation, and the All Manipur Muslim Organisations Coordinating Committee, along with Anjuman-e-Ulama-e-Jiribam. The event took place at Lalpani Bazaar, a central location that attracted a large turnout from various localities across the district.
Participants in the protest were seen holding a variety of placards emblazoned with powerful messages such as “We Oppose Waqf Amendment Act 2025,” “Protect Land, Rights & Justice,” and “Repeal the Unjust Law.” The demonstrators expressed their concerns over the implications of the Waqf Act, asserting that it poses a threat to their land rights and the socio-economic fabric of their community.
Leaders of the organizations involved emphasized the need for solidarity and collective action, stating that the amendments to the Waqf Act could lead to significant injustices. They called upon the government to reconsider the legislation, urging for a dialogue that addresses the concerns of the affected communities.
The protest reflects a growing discontent among the public regarding legislative decisions perceived as detrimental to their rights and livelihoods. As the movement gains momentum, organizers are planning further actions to ensure their voices are heard and their rights protected.
Local authorities monitored the protest to maintain order, but the atmosphere remained peaceful as demonstrators expressed their grievances through chants and slogans.

Interacting with media, the advisor of Anjuman-e-Ulama-e-Jiribam, Maulana Ahmed Ali expressed strong condemnation of the Waqf Act 2025. He urged the government to repeal the act, emphasizing that it is essential for the well-being of the masses. Maulana Ahmed Ali highlighted the potential negative impact of the legislation on the community and called for a reassessment to ensure that the interests of the people are prioritized. He believes that repealing the act would serve the greater good and uphold the rights and welfare of the community.
