Imphal, April 11:
Members of the Muslim minority community in Manipur staged a mass rally on Friday in Imphal East’s Hatta area to protest against the Waqf Amendment Act, 2025.
The demonstrators expressed strong opposition to the Act, which was recently passed by both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha. Protesters urged that the amended legislation should not be implemented in the state of Manipur, citing concerns over its potential impact on the management and autonomy of Waqf properties.
The rally witnessed significant participation from various sections of the community, with placards and slogans calling for the protection of religious rights and preservation of community resources.
Organisers stated that further democratic protests would be held if the government failed to address their concerns and reconsider the implementation of the Act in the state.
Authorities maintained a watchful presence during the rally to ensure the protest remained peaceful. No untoward incidents were reported.
