Three to four houses belonging to Rongmei Naga residents were reportedly burnt at Khedaghar along the Jiribam-Tamenglong border on Sunday evening, hours after four Kuki-Zo civilians were killed in separate attacks at L. Tollen and Longpi.
Police sources said the houses, located around 12 km south of Jiribam Police Station and about 3 km south of Makhabasti, had been vacated by Naga residents weeks ago amid growing Kuki-Naga tensions. No casualties or injuries were reported.
In a separate incident, three houses were reportedly set ablaze at Dongmei/Nungkhal, a remote Naga village around 27 km from Tamenglong district headquarters but accessible only through Jiribam. The village, which falls under Tamenglong district jurisdiction, had about five houses, with residents reportedly evacuated in recent days.
Security forces, including the Central Reserve Police Force and Assam Rifles, had been conducting area domination operations since the morning. Troops of 48 Battalion Central Reserve Police Force were subsequently moved towards the affected areas and placed on heightened alert.
Police sources said another remote Naga settlement, Baiboni, has around 20 houses and a permanent 48 Battalion Central Reserve Police Force platoon. A 38 Assam Rifles column is stationed at nearby Muolzol Kuki village.
No loss of life has been reported in the attacks, with damage so far confined to houses and other property. Security forces have been directed to maintain heightened alertness and ensure rapid mobilisation while intensifying contact with villagers and local community representatives.
