IT News
Imphal, Nov 7:

A violent attack on a school teacher took place this morning at Irilbung High School, located in Bamonkampu Makha Leikai, Imphal East. The victim, Nongthombam Nilakamol (60), the headmaster of the school, was brutally assaulted by two armed assailants around 10:00 AM. The attackers, armed with iron rods, struck the headmaster after a dispute regarding a monetary demand.
Reports indicate that the attack followed a demand letter received by Nilakamol on October 25 from the outlawed KCP group, which requested Rs. 50,000. The headmaster, however, explained that he could only afford to pay Rs. 23,000. Enraged by the refusal, the assailants, reportedly under the influence of alcohol, confronted Nilakamol and violently assaulted him in his office.
Following the attack, Nilakamol was rushed to the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) Hospital for medical treatment.
The assault has sparked widespread outrage, with students, teachers, and staff of Irilbung High School staging a protest at the school gate. The protesters condemned the attack and demanded immediate action against the perpetrators. One teacher present during the incident described how the assailants entered the headmaster’s room and beat him severely, leading to his hospitalization.
The protestors expressed grave concern over the growing threat of violence against school staff, emphasizing that such attacks disrupt the academic environment and create a climate of fear. They called on the authorities to take urgent action to ensure the safety of school personnel and students.
Students participating in the protest voiced their anger and sadness over the attack on their teacher, demanding strict punishment for those responsible. In a display of solidarity, the school announced that classes would be suspended for two days to support Nilakamol and to advocate for increased security measures at the institution.
