Imphal, April 10:
The Kangleipak Students’ Association (KSA) has voiced significant concerns regarding the underwhelming academic performance of Manipur University, which failed to secure a position within the top 100 rankings of the NIRF (National Institutional Ranking Framework).
In a statement, the KSA pointed to various forms of nepotism and favoritism as contributing factors to the alarming state of Manipur University’s academic standards. The KSA expressed dismay at the university’s failure to achieve a commendable ranking, attributing it to systemic issues such as nepotism and favoritism.
The Kangleipak Students’ Association (KSA) has cited specific instances of nepotism and favoritism within the Manipur University (MU) administration, citing an example related to the recruitment process. According to the KSA, the MU authorities have attempted to exempt certain specializations mentioned in the recruitment advertisement for two assistant professor positions in the Manipuri department, – Manipuri Linguistic and Old Manipuri Literature. This move, allegedly made in collusion with some MU authorities, aims to enable the recruitment of candidates who do not meet the qualifications outlined in the advertisement notification issued on February 23, 2024.
The KSA has denounced this initiative to exempt specializations as an act of favoritism and nepotism on the part of the MU authority. By attempting to bypass the stated requirements, the MU administration is accused of showing preferential treatment to certain individuals rather than adhering to fair and transparent recruitment practices.
Furthermore, the KSA has raised questions about the pending recruitment process in the Teacher Education department at Manipur University. The association has queried why the MU authorities have chosen to remain silent regarding this controversial recruitment issue. The KSA’s inquiry suggests a demand for accountability and transparency from the MU administration regarding recruitment procedures, highlighting concerns about potential irregularities or biases in the selection process.
The statement underscores the urgent need for measures to address these concerns and restore the academic integrity of Manipur University. The KSA’s stance highlights the gravity of the situation and calls for immediate action to rectify the underlying issues affecting the university’s performance.
