Imphal, Nov 5:
The Kongpal Chanam Leikai Development Organisation (KCDO) has expressed deep appreciation for the declarations made at the Thadou Convention 2024 held on November 2 in Guwahati. In a statement the KCDO said that these resolutions underscore the Thadou community’s resilience, unity, and commitment to preserving its distinct identity, culture, and heritage while highlighting the community’s love for Manipur.
The convention’s affirmation of Thadou identity as a unique cultural entity, distinct from the Kuki, has resonated with many, KCDO noted. This clear distinction strengthens the Thadou’s sense of cultural pride and self-determination, which KCDO believes contributes to Manipur’s diversity. The organisation particularly acknowledged the community’s stance against any misrepresentation and appropriation of its identity, language, and traditions, which it attributed to certain political agendas. By emphasizing dignity, respect, and coexistence, the Thadou community had reinforced its dedication to peaceful and respectful relations with other groups.
KCDO also remarked on the convention’s condemnation of violence, human rights abuses, and divisive agendas, interpreting it as a strong commitment by the Thadou community to peace, justice, and non-violent resolution. This focus on fairness and equality, KCDO stated, aligns with its own values and the broader goals of harmony within Manipur.
KCDO commended the Thadou Community International (TCI) for its support of implementing the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Manipur, which they believe would protect Indigenous populations and uphold the state’s cultural fabric. KCDO also lauded TCI’s endorsement of the state government’s anti-drug initiatives, acknowledging the broad impact of drug-related issues on all communities.
Furthermore, the organisation expressed appreciation for TCI’s peace-building efforts in Jiribam and its commitment to dialogue with various communities, including the Meitei, Hmar, Paite, and Mizo, describing it as a commendable step toward reconciliation.
