The Manipur Meitei Pangal Welfare Organisation (MMWO) has issued an appeal to the public, urging them to refrain from posting hate speech on social media that could incite tensions among communities in the state.
During a press briefing at the organisation’s headquarters, MMWO representative Boboi Korimayum expressed concern over the fragile situation in Manipur, emphasizing the longstanding relationship between the Meitei Pangal community and others in the region. Boboi noted that inflammatory comments from individuals on both sides have contributed to strained relations between communities.
“As social beings, we must avoid sharing divisive or misleading posts that could deepen misunderstandings and conflicts,” he said. He added that the MMWO has taken steps within the Meitei Pangal community to address members who post harmful content on social media, with an aim to curb any hate-driven rhetoric. The organisation also called on the Meitei community to take similar action against those who spread provocative messages online.
Boboi emphasized that the Meitei Pangal community stands united with the Meitei and has shared in the hardships of the ongoing crisis. “We have endured the same suffering,” he stated. “Together, let us identify those who are instigating unrest and work collectively for the betterment of the state.”
