ILPS protest intensifies: Several students injured in police action at various places

Several Students were injured after police thronged into action by firing tear gas shells and mock bombs to a group of protestors demanding implementation of Inner Line Permit System in the state at Singjamei area today afternoon.
Report said that large number of students belonging to Manipur College today staged a protest demonstration in front of their college at around 1 pm. The students then march a protest rally towards Singjamei and tried to proceed towards Chief Minister’s Bungalow. However, a strong team of Manipur Police prevented them at Singjamei Chinga Traffic Island. The students instead of retreating confronted the police personnel which stopped them. The police then fires rounds of tear gas shells and mock bombs to disperse them. The students too retaliated by pelting stones to the police team. At least two student protestors were picked up by the police team.
In the police action several students were reported injured. A two wheeler vehicle bearing registration number MN 01 Z 8205, which was parked in front of a clinic was also severely damage after a tear gas shell exploded at the vehicle. Owner of the vehicle was undergoing treatment at the clinic called Urban Health Center at the time when the explosion took place. Locals of the area blamed the police for firing towards civilian particularly to the clinic.
Students of the Imphal College alleged, a male police personnel physically assaulting a girl student during the protest. She sustained severe scratch marks at her face and arm.  
On the other hand, students of Model Junior High School also clashed with a police team at Tera Keithel. The students were also staging a protest rally demanding implementation of Inner Line Permit System. The police team fired rounds of tear gas shell and mock bomb. Two girl students were reported injured after they were hit by the tear gas shells.  
Similar protest was also staged at Thoubal by students of various schools and colleges of the district.
JCILPS Students’ Wing had earlier threatened serious form agitation if the government failed to draft a new ILPS Bill as proposed by the JCILPS and introduce it in the State Legislative Assembly session before September 21 by summoning the State Assembly session.
