Imphal, May 4:
Meitei Resurgence Forum (MReF) has organizes Rising Day for Indigenous People on the eve of the one year anniversary of the ethnic conflict in Manipur. MReF organized a commemoration event called “Rising Day for Indigenous People.” The forum highlighted the plight of indigenous communities in Manipur, particularly in areas such as Churachandpur, Motbung, Kanglatongbi, Torbung Bangla, Phoubakchou ekai, and several others, which have been significantly affected by the conflict.
In a statement issued by the MReF, they accused Kuki narco-terrorists of being responsible for the violence against Meiteis. The forum pointed out historical instances of migration, stating that since 1967, over 500 Kuki families have migrated into Manipur. Additionally, a significant refugee influx occurred in 1992. The MReF argued that the lack of proper addressing of these issues, coupled with flawed settlement strategies for the Kukis, has contributed to the current conflict.
