Food Safety officials burn tobacco products

Officials of the Food Safety department Chandel district burn tobacco products worth around rupees 5 lakhs at Pallel in Chandel district on Friday. The tobacco products were seized by troops of F-Coy of 20 Assam Rifles at Bongyang post along Imphal – Moreh route on January 11. The burnt contraband includes 20 boxes of Bengali Tobacco (Khaini),  16 boxes containing 1800 tins weighing 10 grams of Signal Tobacco 350 (Zarda), 2 boxes containing 300 tins of Signal Tobacco 350 (Zarda) weighing 50 grams which is worth around Rupees 5,66,200 in local market .
The contraband items were destroyed in presence of N. Birchandra Singh, Chief Medical Officer, Chandel who is also the Food Safety officer and Elvison, Food Safety Officers, Chandel among
others.
It is worth mentioning that the State Cabinet has banned selling and displaying of Tobacco products in any forms since 2013.
