New Delhi, April 19:

A dead body was discovered this morning near the I Love Kilokari signboard, close to the Mandir in Maharani Bagh. Police source said that the deceased has been identified as Priya Laxmi Devi, daughter of Khagemba Jadumani Singh from Bishnupur.
Priya, who worked at Ienergizer (Blackjack), had not reported for work yesterday. Her body was found near her building, which she resided in on the third floor. The cause of death is currently unknown, with results pending the post-mortem examination. Authorities are investigating the matter further.

Demand for inquiry grows over death of young Manipuri woman in Delhi

The tragic death of a 20-year-old Manipuri woman in Delhi’s Kilokari area has sparked growing calls for a thorough and impartial inquiry, with many questioning the circumstances surrounding her alleged suicide.
The young woman, originally from Bishnupur district in Manipur, was found dead near Maharani Park, close to Gupta Store, early Saturday morning. A PCR call was received at 6:22 AM by Sunlight Colony Police Station, alerting them to the presence of the body.
Though initial police findings point toward suicide — supported by CCTV footage showing the woman walking alone on the rooftop of her residence at H. No. C-43, Kilokari, and then jumping — community members, rights groups, and student organizations have called for a deeper investigation. Many have expressed concerns about the possible pressures the young woman may have faced as a Northeastern migrant living and working in Delhi.
She had reportedly been staying in Delhi since October 2024 and was working at a Noida-based BPO firm, Energizer, along with her roommate. A suicide note found on her phone revealed deep emotional distress, feelings of failure, and mental exhaustion. The room was inspected in the presence of the District Crime Team.
While the police have preserved the body at the AIIMS mortuary for postmortem, to be conducted in the presence of the family, voices from the Northeastern community and civil society are demanding transparency in the probe.
“We want answers,” said one student activist. “We need to know if she was subjected to harassment, discrimination, or any other pressure. A young life has been lost — we cannot simply close the case without full clarity.”
The case has reignited discussions about the safety, mental well-being, and inclusion of youths from the Northeast living in metropolitan cities like Delhi. Many are urging the authorities to treat the case with the seriousness it deserves and ensure justice for the deceased and her grieving family.
