A delegation of senior media professionals from Manipur visited Karkinos Manipur Hospital at the JNIMS campus, Porompat, as part of an interactive familiarisation programme aimed at enhancing awareness about cancer care services in the state.
The delegation included AMWJU Advisor Dr. RK Nimai, Editors Guild of Manipur (EGM) President Khogendra Khomdram, EGM Secretary Rupachandra Yumnam, AMWJU President Asem Bhakta Singh, and senior editors and representatives of local newspapers.
Welcoming the delegation, Medical Superintendent Dr. Sapam Opendro highlighted the hospital’s commitment to providing accessible and affordable comprehensive cancer care under one roof, reducing the need for patients to seek treatment outside the state. He informed the visitors that the hospital offers medical, surgical and radiation oncology services, advanced diagnostics, chemotherapy, palliative care and multidisciplinary consultations.
The media team was taken on a guided tour of the hospital’s facilities and interacted with doctors and healthcare professionals to gain insights into specialised cancer diagnosis and treatment services.
Members of the delegation appreciated the efforts made by Karkinos in establishing a modern cancer care facility in Manipur and acknowledged its contribution to improving healthcare access in the region.
During the interaction, it was jointly decided that Karkinos Manipur Hospital would organise a free cancer screening programme for media personnel and their family members during the first week of July 2026. The screening will focus on the early detection of breast, oral and cervical cancers.
The hospital also proposed extending special treatment concessions to media professionals and their families, with details to be worked out jointly in the coming weeks.
M. Biswanath Sinha, National Marketing and Policy Head of Karkinos Mumbai Head Office, thanked the Editors Guild of Manipur, AMWJU and participating media representatives for their visit and constructive engagement. The hospital reaffirmed its commitment to promoting cancer awareness, early detection and improved access to quality cancer care across Manipur.
