Bharatiya Janata Party MLA of Mayang Imphal Assembly Constituency, K. Robindro, today expressed serious concern for people affected by the crisis that erupted on May 3, 2023, stating that his priority lies in addressing their suffering rather than the immediate formation of a popular government.
Robindro said he has no objection to delaying the formation of a popular government for one or two years, provided the present President’s Rule administration takes concrete steps to address the grievances of those affected by the crisis, fulfils the demands of internally displaced persons, and undertakes developmental works in both the valley and hill districts.
“As long as the government takes up development works and resolves the issues faced by the internally displaced persons, I have no problem with delaying the formation of a popular government,” he said.
The MLA was speaking at the inaugural function of a community hall of the Namthankong Baptist Church at Uchiwa Kabui village in Mayang Imphal Assembly Constituency.
He, however, acknowledged that people generally prefer a popular government as it provides a platform to raise issues and grievances directly with elected representatives. He added that legislators also feel that a popular government is better placed to serve the people.
Expressing optimism, Robindro said he has full faith that a popular government will be installed soon. He further expressed hope that with the arrival of Christmas and the New Year two thousand twenty-six, the people of Manipur would be able to begin a new chapter marked by peace, harmony, and reconciliation among all communities in the State.
