Imphal,Oct. 29: The Solar Traffic Signal Light (TSL) Systems installed at various parts of the Imphal City by incurring huge money from the state exchequer are lying defunct with no one to repair them.With a view to reduce traffic congestion, the Solar Traffic signal Lights were Installed in six important traffic points of Imphal city including Keishampat Junction Traffic Point, Nityaipat Chuthek Traffic point, CM Bungalow traffic point, Western Gate of Kangla traffic point, Khuyathong traffic point near LIC office and the traffic point located at North AOC for the first time in the state.Considering the poor electricity in the state, Manipur government installed the said solar traffic signal lights to enable working 24X7 in the task of traffic control.After installation of the traffic signal lights in the Imphal city, they were working for sometime. However, these Traffic Light systems, operated with the help of solar generated energy, are currently lying defunct due to various technical defects. With the TSL systems procured by the state government investing huge money proving complete failure, traffic policemen are working against all odds and difficulties to control traffic congestion of Imphal city using hand held traffic signal lights.A joint meeting attended by the Principal Secretary, Power, Transport Department officials and Imphal West Traffic police also one declared the said TSL systems complete failure and discussed to re-start the second phase of TSL system installation. Lack of technical knowhow on the part of experts in operating the solar signal lights in view of the traffic volume in Imphal city is one of the failure of TSL system, informed an official of the Transport department.With the failure of the traffic lights, the traffic personals are facing many inconveniences in controlling the traffic of Imphal city.
