Imphal, Nov 30:
The significance of November 30, 1947, a historic day when Hijam Irabot convened the United Front for the unity of Manipur, was highlighted during an observance held at Irawat Bhavan in Imphal. The event was marked by speeches and reflections on the enduring relevance of Irabot’s vision for a unified Manipur amidst the current challenges facing the state.
Langol Iboyaima, Chairman of the State Control Commission of the Communist Party of India (CPI), addressed the gathering, emphasizing the enduring importance of the United Front in fostering unity among Manipur’s diverse communities. He pointed out that in 1947, leaders from Kuki, Naga, Meitei, and Meitei Pangal communities came together under a shared vision to form Manipur, transcending ethnic and cultural differences. This spirit of unity, he noted, remains critical today as the state continues to grapple with complex socio-political challenges and ethnic divides.
“The relevance of Hijam Irabot’s call for unity is more pressing than ever,” Iboyaima stated, adding that the ongoing crisis in Manipur underscores the need for collective effort to rebuild trust and harmony among its people. He urged the public to draw inspiration from Irabot’s ideals, advocating for inclusive development and peaceful coexistence.
The event at Irawat Bhavan saw the participation of political leaders, intellectuals, and members of civil society, who collectively reflected on Irabot’s contributions to Manipur’s history and his enduring legacy. Discussions also touched on contemporary issues such as demographic changes, social disparities, and the need to address grievances across communities to preserve the state’s integrity.
