Imphal, Aug 30:
The Manipuri Meitei Association Bangalore (MMAB) has issued an urgent appeal to India’s Home Minister, Amit Shah, expressing deep concerns over an upcoming nationwide rally organized by the Kuki Students Organization (KSO) and Kuki Inpi. Scheduled for August 31st, the rally includes a protest at Jantar Mantar, where participants plan to demand Union Territory status based on allegations of genocide by the Indian government. MMAB has condemned these claims as misleading propaganda.
In a letter addressed to Home Minister Shah, MMAB asserted that the rally’s allegations are false and could provoke unwarranted international media scrutiny, potentially targeting high-ranking officials such as the Prime Minister and the Home Minister. The association argued that the ongoing violence in Manipur is rooted in illegal Kuki immigration and attacks by Kuki armed militant groups. They also emphasized that the issue is currently under judicial review by the Supreme Court, highlighting the need for caution in public discourse.
MMAB further emphasized their dedication to peace and community engagement, referencing their recent ‘Fields of Hope’ sports event, which was aimed at fostering unity among Manipur’s diverse communities. The association warned that rallies based on unverified allegations could exacerbate existing tensions and undermine ongoing peace efforts in the region.
