An emergency meeting was convened today at the residence of Khurai MLA L. Susindro Meitei to address what he described as false and misleading allegations made by the People’s Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL) regarding Manipur’s ethnic violence yesterday.
The meeting was attended by representatives of local clubs and Meira Paibis under Khurai Assembly Constituency, where detailed discussions were held and collective resolutions adopted.
Speaking at the gathering, MLA L. Susindro Meitei said, “PUCL’s biased report on the violence in Manipur threatens the hard-earned peace in the state, and endangers the truth. It is an agenda-driven document, targeting Meiteis and the BJP Government, and risks deepening divisions in the state. The PUCL’s account of the Manipur crisis heavily distorts reality by pushing a one-sided narrative that misrepresents the conflict. The report sidesteps the established records and facts of organized attacks on Meitei homes in Torbung Bangla and the deliberate arson of forest offices in multiple Kuki dominated districts. It wrongly claims that the Meiteis chose to abandon the hills. The fact remains that on May 3, 2023, Meiteis were violently driven out from Kuki strongholds like Churachandpur, Moreh, and Kangpokpi, with Kukis fleeing in the ensuing turmoil. The relevant authorities and the people must remain vigilant against these anti-national elements, while calling for an urgent scrutiny of the authors of the report. The citizens of Khurai Assembly Constituency have resolved to lodge an FIR against the PUCL. We will not remain as mute spectators.”
The participants present at the meeting endorsed this position and reaffirmed their commitment to defend the truth and safeguard the dignity of the people of Manipur.
