The Democratic Students’ Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has urged the state government and MPs to intervene in the allocation of NEET-PG 2026 examination centres in Churachandpur for 29 Meitei and Naga candidates, citing security concerns amid the ongoing conflict.
In representations submitted to Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh, Inner Manipur Lok Sabha MP Dr Bimol Akoijam and Rajya Sabha MP A. Sharda, DESAM sought immediate coordination with the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) to relocate the centres to Imphal or other safe and accessible locations in the valley.
According to DESAM, the 29 candidates had selected Imphal, Thoubal, Bishnupur and Kakching as preferred centres but were subsequently allotted centres in Churachandpur. The organisation said travelling to Churachandpur could pose serious security and logistical challenges given the prevailing situation.
DESAM also expressed concern that the additional stress of travelling through areas perceived as unsafe could affect the candidates’ ability to appear for the postgraduate medical entrance examination on equal terms.
NEET-PG 2026 is scheduled for August 30. DESAM urged the authorities to resolve the issue before the examination and ensure that the affected candidates can take the test in a secure and accessible environment.
