The Film Forum Manipur (FFM) has announced the launch of a dedicated website to create a digital record of Manipuri films previewed by the organisation since 2007, while asking producers and filmmakers to submit supporting documents for films whose records are incomplete.
In an office memorandum dated August 8, 2026, the Film Forum Manipur said the website would cover films previewed by the organisation from 2007 to July 2026. The forum has also attached year-wise lists of films previewed during the period for verification.
According to the memorandum, producers and filmmakers whose digital films have been previewed by the Film Forum but were not uploaded to the newly launched website have been asked to submit the relevant films, along with supporting documents, within 15 days from the date of issue of the memorandum.
The forum stated that the documents would be required to establish and verify the records before the films are uploaded to the website.
It further warned that failure to submit the relevant documents within the stipulated 15-day period would mean that the submissions would not be entertained.
The annexures attached to the memorandum indicate the scale of the Film Forum’s film-previewing records. The lists begin with films previewed in 2007, when the forum recorded 50 films, and continue year by year. The latest annexure records 14 films previewed up to July 2026.
The year-wise records contain details including the name of the film, production banner, producer, director and date of preview. The records cover hundreds of film entries over nearly two decades, providing a potentially significant institutional archive of the development of Manipuri cinema.
The 2025 annexure, for instance, records 35 films, while the 2024 list contains 31 films. The 2026 list records 14 films up to July.
The initiative comes at a time when the preservation and digitisation of Manipuri cinema has assumed greater importance, particularly as a substantial body of films produced over the years remains scattered among individual filmmakers, producers and production houses.
The Film Forum’s decision to consolidate its records through a dedicated digital platform could therefore serve not merely as an administrative exercise but also as an effort to establish an accessible historical record of Manipuri cinema and its creators.
The memorandum has been issued by K. R. Ronelchandra Meitei, General Secretary, Film Forum Manipur, and copies have been forwarded to the forum’s chairman-in-charge, vice-chairman, secretary and concerned film guilds and associations, besides the print and electronic media and the Guard File.
