As many as 56 senior citizens from Kwakta Municipal Council and Kwakta Gram Panchayat received Manipur Old Age Pension (MOAP) cards at a distribution programme held at the Kwakta Bazar Community Hall on Thursday.
The programme was organised by former Moirang MLA Mairembam Prithiviraj in coordination with the Social Welfare Department, Government of Manipur.
Among those present were Mairembam Prithiviraj, his wife Khelena Gurumayum, Kwakta Municipal Council Ward No. 1 Councillor Md. Azad Khan, Ward No. 6 Councillor Sarita, Ward No. 4 Councillor Md. Meena Bibi, former Kwakta Gram Panchayat Pradhans Md. Azad and Md. Iboton, former Upa-Pradhan Maibam Sarat, former members Md. Taher Ali and Ayub Khan, and BJP Moirang Mandal president Md. Shaukat Ali.
Speaking on the occasion, former MLA Prithiviraj said beneficiaries would receive six months’ pension directly in their bank accounts within a week. Referring to various government welfare schemes, including the Ema Nongthang Leima Yaipha Tengbang Scheme, he urged the public not to pay money to anyone in the hope of securing benefits.
During the programme, Manipur Old Age Pension cards were distributed to 56 elderly beneficiaries aged 60 years and above from Kwakta Municipal Council and Kwakta Gram Panchayat.
