The Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) has expressed concern over what it described as the prevailing situation affecting the Zeliangrong Inpui people and their ancestral homeland, urging civil society organisations, political leaders and individuals not to engage in unilateral decisions on pending political issues without the knowledge and consent of all stakeholders.
In a statement issued by its Ministry of Information and Publicity, the outfit said any Charter of Demands or unresolved proposals made by the Central or State Governments should not be pursued through what it termed “self-proclaimed negotiators.” The ZUF said it would closely monitor such developments and take what it called “appropriate action” against any unauthorised negotiations that, according to the group, undermine the interests of the Zeliangrong people.
The outfit reiterated its concerns over alleged illegal immigration, land encroachment and exploitation of natural resources, stating that such issues should be addressed through lawful and constitutional means. It maintained that the history, identity, customary rights and ancestral land of the Zeliangrong people are non-negotiable.
The ZUF also issued a warning to persons it described as “illegal immigrants,” asking them to leave areas it claims as Zeliangrong ancestral land. The statement contained threats of force against those who fail to comply.
The outfit further rejected the apology issued by certain Kuki-Zo leaders over the reported use of the term “Kacha Naga,” stating that it does not accept the apology.
Referring to the killing of villagers from Konsakhul, the ZUF accused Kuki militant groups of committing atrocities and said it would never compromise with those responsible. The allegations contained in the statement have not been independently verified.
Reaffirming its commitment to protecting what it described as the legitimate rights, ancestral land, natural resources and cultural heritage of the Zeliangrong Inpui people, the ZUF asserted that it would continue to defend the territorial interests and identity of the community.
