Ongoing crisis stems from multiple issues, thus need broad discussion for resolution

The three-day international seminar on World Anthropology Post Congress 2023, held as part of World Anthropology Day under the theme “Anthropology in Practice: Health, Culture, and Security,” at the Manipur University auditorium, concluded today. Speaking to reporters at the sidelines of the closing function, Professor MC Arun emphasized that the violence, which commenced on May 3, 2023, stems from multiple underlying issues that necessitate a broader discussion for resolution. He stressed that military intervention alone cannot provide a solution, and it’s unrealistic to expect a quick fix. The professor highlighted that while theory-based initiatives are commendable, but they are insufficient to address the complexities of the situation; instead, a comprehensive understanding of the ground reality and its causes is essential for devising feasible solutions.
The International Seminar, commemorating World Anthropology Post Congress 2023, was sponsored by IGRMS, ICSSR, SERB, and DBT. The event was jointly organized by 27 colleges of the Department of Anthropology of Manipur, Dhanamanjuri University, Anthropology Department, and the Department of Anthropology at Manipur University.
The seminar, with its theme “Anthropology in Practice: Health, Culture, & Security,” saw active participation from various speakers, paper presenters, and scholars from higher educational institutions, both within and outside the country, engaging in a series of academic sessions covering a wide range of topics.
The Valedictory Session, chaired by Professor K. Yugindro Singh, Vice Chancellor in-charge of Manipur University, was attended by Professor W. Chandbabu Singh, Registrar of Manipur University, and Professor S. Jibonkumar Singh, Chairman of the Organizing Committee and Head of the Department of Anthropology at Manipur University.
Delegates from Sidho-Kanho-Birsha University, West Bengal, University of Delhi, Allahabad University, and BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences, Nepal, acknowledged the program’s significance.
