JAC expresses discontent over unfulfilled agreement in Mayajul Haque killing case

IT Correspondent
Jiribam, May 7:

Joint Action Committee (JAC) has voiced its dissatisfaction regarding the unmet terms of an agreement concerning the killing of Mayajul Haque, underscoring the urgency for justice in the matter.
Speaking to media persons, Abdul Rof, Vice-Chairman of the JAC, recounted the tragic events leading to Haque’s death. On March 19, 2024, Haque was reportedly taken from his home by Mutum Biken and K. Roshan Singh, a ward member of Hilghat G.P, on the pretext of selling cattle. Subsequently, Haque suffered a brutal assault, resulting in his untimely demise. Rof condemned the heinous act, asserting its violation of laws and fundamental human rights.
In response to the incident, the JAC convened a meeting on March 22, 2024, involving representatives from both communities to address potential misunderstandings. During this gathering, an agreement was reached stipulating that financial assistance would be provided to Haque’s family by the accused parties on or before April 20, 2024, as a gesture of reconciliation.
However, despite the agreed-upon timeline, the accused individuals and their representatives have failed to fulfill their commitments, prompting dissatisfaction within the JAC. Rof expressed disappointment at the lack of progress in resolving the matter.
Highlighting the gravity of the situation, Rof announced that if a satisfactory resolution is not achieved by May 15, 2024, the JAC, in collaboration with Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) of Jiribam, will pursue legal avenues and democratic agitation to pursue justice.
