The United Women Organizations Tamenglong (UWOT) strongly condemned the use of force against the peaceful protestors demanding justice for suspicious death of (Late) Ms. Chungamuu Riamei , sustaining severe injuries at the hand of state police force.
A statement signed by President of UWOT, Aduanliu said that the very act against the peaceful protesters is a clear violation and an attempt to suppress tribal people’s rights instead of ensuring justice by the state government.
Recalling the incident, she said that Late Ms. Chungemliu Riamei W/O Mr. Kansanng Tombe @ Jackson of Moirang Pansang Leikai, Bishnupur, was found dead in a very un-natural manner inside her marital residence on August 17, 2019.
UWOT expressed serious concern on the rapidly rising violence against women in the state of Manipur and the inept handling of such cases by the state government including the recent mysterious death of (Late) Babysana, whose dead body was found hanging inside the hostel of Standard Robarth Higher Secondary School, Canchipur on the morning of July 18, 2019.
Highlighting several demands regarding the death of Riamei and also the atrocities of the police upon the peaceful protestors, she said that UWOT demand immediate impartial and thorough investigation regarding the suspicious death of both Late Ms. Chungamllu Riamei and Late Babysana.
UWOT further demanded to immediately identify and book all the persons involved and to device an effective means and mechanism to prevent all forms of violence against women and children.
Condemning the atrocities of the police on the peaceful protestors, they demanded to issue immediate suspension order for all the police personnel involved in using force against the peaceful protestors, award exemplary punishment as per the law of the land to the guilty persons, guarantee that no arm or force is to be used against the peaceful protesters demanding for delivery of justice in future and compensate adequately against the medical expenses incurred by the victims
UWOT further extended solidarity to the JACs of Late Ms. Riamei and Late Babysana.
