Amid ongoing boycott calls and protests against the Sangai Tourism Festival, internationally acclaimed British pop and R&B band Blue arrived in Imphal today ahead of their performance at the Sangai Music Festival, one of the marquee attractions of the annual event. This marks the band’s first-ever visit to Manipur as part of their global tour.
Band members Simon Webbe, Duncan James, Antony Costa and Lee Ryan landed at Imphal International Airport this afternoon, where they were received by festival organisers.
Blue is slated to perform on Saturday at the Archery Ground, Khuman Lampak, presenting a lineup of their most popular international hits. Tracks such as “One Love,” “Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word,” “All Rise,” and “U Make Me Wanna” are expected to feature in their set, generating excitement among music enthusiasts despite the tense atmosphere surrounding the festival.
Ahead of their show, the band called on the people of Manipur to come together and enjoy the musical evening.
Festival organisers also announced that several local bands will perform during the event, adding a strong regional presence and contributing to a more vibrant musical showcase.
The arrival of Blue comes at a time when sections of the population have opposed the hosting of the festival, citing the ongoing humanitarian challenges in the state. Despite this, preparations for the music festival continue, with authorities expressing hope that the performances will bring a positive cultural experience to attendees.
It may be recalled that the Popular rock band Girish and the Chronicles had also arrived in Imphal today to perform tomorrow.
The band was warmly received by excited fans and organisers upon arrival. Known for their powerful high-pitched vocals, a recent sound check clip of the band went viral worldwide, showcasing their exceptional vocal range reminiscent of standout performances on America’s Got Talent, earning praise from fans across the globe.
Girish and the Chronicles are also celebrated for their energetic renditions of Guns N’ Roses covers, building anticipation for tomorrow’s rock-packed performance in Imphal.
