The Working Committee of the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) has strongly condemned a large-scale security operation conducted at Konsakhul (Konsaram), a Liangmai Naga village in Manipur, calling the action insensitive and unjust while the community mourns the killing of six villagers allegedly by cadres of the Kuki National Front-Presidential (KNF-P).
In a statement issued on Wednesday, TNL described Konsakhul as a “victim village” still grieving the loss of six Liangmai Naga civilians who were among 18 people abducted on May 13 from Leilon Vaiphei village. The organisation alleged that the abduction was carried out by armed KNF-P cadres. While several hostages, including women and two Salesian priests, were later released, six villagers remained in captivity.
According to TNL, the bodies of the six victims were recovered nearly a month later near Leilon Vaiphei and handed over to authorities on June 10, triggering widespread outrage across Naga communities. The victims reportedly included church leaders and community workers.
Against this backdrop, TNL questioned the rationale behind the security operation at Konsakhul, alleging that authorities had acted against a grieving community instead of pursuing those responsible for the abduction and killings. The organisation said the operation had deepened the anguish of bereaved families and raised concerns over the government’s handling of the case.
Demanding accountability, TNL urged both the State and Central governments to arrest all those involved in the abduction and murder of the six villagers and ensure their prosecution under the law. The organisation also called for a just resolution to the tensions arising from the killings, stating that lasting peace would depend on justice, accountability and the punishment of those responsible.
