Wrath over the death, patient party throng to doctor’s residence but timely police action put the situation under control

A mother of two today died while delivering a third son at Raj Medicity today. The relatives and the family members of the ill fated lady blame the doctor who has been treating her for the cause of the death. The incident happened today, some hours after midnight yesterday. She was reportedly admitted to Raj Medicity hospital yesterday and the she gave birth to a son under normal delivery at half past midnight yesterday, i.e at wee hour today morning.
“Everything was fine at the time of delivery and for reason not known to the doctors undergoing treatment, excessive bleeding started”, said Medical Superintendent of Raj Medicity Dr. Aribam Ibotombi Singh.
Dr. Sukumar, who have left government job and serving at Raj Medicity was the consultant of the ill fated lady and he remained in the hospital keeping keen observation to the lady as she has been his patient.
The news about the death of the lady on her third delivery angered the relatives and family of the deceased identified as Pheirembam Ongbi Panthoi (38 years) wife of Pheirembam Chingkheinganba @ Abung of Khangempalli Nganappi Thong. The family member alleged the doctor’s negligence as the cause of the death and demanded apology from the doctor. Superintendent of the Raj Medicity had clarified about the incident and the clarification failed to satisfy the family members and said that they will not accept the dead body unless the doctor apologise.
Dr. Ibomcha said that Dr. Sukumar is in a state of shock and he had never expected the unfortunate death as the case was normal delivery.
Later, leaving the body at the hospital the patient party went to the residence of Dr. Sukumar at Keishamthong Hodam Leirak and were supposed to attack the residence of the doctor, but timely police action has intervened from causing any damage.
Not so much outpour of anger has been noticed when many women or teenage girl were found raped and murdered in the most brutal manner, but the people of the state witnessed many a times attacking the residence of doctor who try to save patient died accidentally or incidentally. Rape and murder accused are often let free and people don’t give a damn except some few activists voicing against it. But when a patient dies in hospital, knowingly or unknowingly people who are near and dear one of the victim blame the doctor and even attempts to vandalize the hospital properties as well as the one belonging to the doctor. Doctors who have children and took oath for saving lives are often blamed for the cause of any death as if they intend to left the patient in jaws of death. The irate mob, particularly relatives of the patients who died unfortunately poured out all their anger to the doctor, without giving a second thought on what the doctor would felt when a patient whom he wanted to save died. Doctors are no God, saving lives make their live more prosperous and if in case patient died in his hand they are disturbed mentally.
