Ukhrul, Oct 1:
Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) has issued a directive to all village headmen and elders residing in villages along the Indo-Myanmar border, instructing them to cease all cooperation with authorities involved in border fencing activities.
The notice, dated 30th September 2024, stated that no cooperation of any kind should be extended to organizations or authorities working on border fencing projects. This “resolute decision,” as stated in the notice, is intended to preserve the autonomy and integrity of the Tangkhul Naga-inhabited areas along the border. The directive cautions that any failure to adhere to this decision would result in strict penalties.
The organization’s leadership, represented by President Sword Vashum andSecretary Mayonsing Ahum, stressed the importance of full compliance of the TNL resolution from village authorities in the border area, particularly in places where communities fear that fencing efforts may impinge on their traditional lands and livelihoods.
Meanwhile, the United Naga Council (UNC), in a separate communication to TNL, conveyed its shock regarding a planned felicitation of Alfred Arthur Kangnam, Outer MP, by Tangkhul Naga Society Delhi. The UNC referenced its earlier resolution from the United Naga Council Emergency Assembly on May 29, 2024, and its public notification from July 13, 2024, reiterating their position against honoring Arthur Kangnam. The letter urged the TNL to take necessary steps to put an end to this “outrageous act,”
